Amazing Quotes to Live By

There isn’t quite anything like a sturdy quote to drive a point fast and firm, to stop an argument leaving the other party speechless. I’ve seen (and effectively used) quite a few good ones in my life. Realizing their values and their powers of keeping people on track, I’ve compiled here a collection of some of the most amazing quotes to live by. While they are mostly self-explanatory, I will try to express them as I see them in simpler ways so that you will find it easier to understand their essence.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”- Oliver Wendell. This is a pretty clever one- it has double meaning. On one hand, it tells us that it is best to focus on the here-now rather than mull over what we have done and will do. On the other hand, it can also mean that the lies we have told and the lies we will tell are nothing compared to the lies we believe in.

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us”- Helen Keller. I think this goes the same for opportunities; when we lose a great chance we had in life, we fall into a deep pit of grievance and regret and go blind to any more opportunities that might decide to come our way.

“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.”- Les Brown. Another small and powerful one analogous to the popular “nothing is impossible”. If you haven’t been in the situation of taking on a seemingly insurmountable challenge only to end up winning it without even realizing that you did, you probably wouldn’t fully understand this.

“Always do what you are afraid to do.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson- That’s the only way to overcome fears and make progress in life.
“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.”- David Brinkley. This one has a good concept/words ratio- if I may judge it in such austere terms. This quote teaches us the importance of resilience and learning from criticism- one of the best amazing quotes to live by.

“Think you can, think you can’t; either way, you’ll be right.”- Henry Ford. This from the pioneer of the modern automobile tells us that the success or failure of what we do depend on how we think about it. If we imagine that we can’t do something, we’ll fail. If we think we can do the same thing, we’ll most probably succeed.

Here’s a funny one to wind it up, from a person whose very name seems to ring with humor:
“I once sent a dozen of my friends a telegram saying ‘flee at once – all is discovered.’ They all left town immediately.”- Mark Twain. Well, that says a lot. I think it tells us what traitors friends can be. As I see it, what Twain meant by his telegram was that he knew “all the bad things his friends had done to him in secret” So his friends, happening to be traitors, left town for fear of having to meet him and being reprimanded.

Thus ends my compilation of amazing quotes to live by. The last one is,
“When the sun sets, the moon rises”
